If you're a red meat lover, this ones for you! O Polar is know for serving up one of the best, if not the best, espetada (beef skewer) on the entire island. The meat is juicy, tender, perfectly cooked, and will melt in your mouth. You can also get chicken here, but we highly recommend the beef!

Espetada is a traditional Portuguese dish, popular in Madeira. The beef is cubed, skewered, and cooked horizontally over a fire and then served with drama as the meat hangs vertically on its skewers at the table. Dinner and a show!

On top of that, O Polar offers a lively, warm atmosphere with welcoming staff. The place is always busy as both locals and tourists come to try the meat. An absolute must-eat for first timers and repeat visitors alike. For us, no trip to Madeira is complete without at least one visit to our favourite, O Polar!

What to order:

  • To drink: Sangria
  • Espetada (beef skewers)
  • Fries, Rice, Milho (traditional deep fried cornmeal like polenta), or any combination of the three
  • Salad
  • Dessert: Pudim Maracuja (Passion Fruit Pudding), Chocolate Mousse, Pudim Ferrerro Rocher, or the trio and get all three!
